Since May of 2010, Dug has been curator of the art at this hometown venue. Since the room has been painted, long pew benches were created, and two month hangs "space placed". thru till December of 2011 find Dug's paintings, alongside works by Dina Peone, Karen Schaeffer and Wayne Swarthout. Like the curator does, there is an essay around the room, tying in a veil of a theme... what do you see? Dutch Ale House is on Main St. in Saugerties NY... soon to brew its very own suds in the back brewery!!!
Pleroma -- Title of album based on C.G. Jung's "Red Book". Recorded in Feb. of 2011... straight ahead Jazz, featuring Don Pate on stand up with bow, Daniel Carter trumpet (muted) ala Miles, sax and flute, Mark E. Johnson "Rhythm Man" on drums, and moving over to Dug's djembe', whence Marvin "Bugulu" Smith sits in on Mark's kit... even takes his furry mallets to da back window! doug elliot, fealress leader on congas, djembe and vocalizing.
Far Away From Hear is another quadrouple entendre' title from WET PAINT recorded in June of 2011 with Pate, Carter, Johnson and Elliot... a bit more on the bluesy side of things... bordering on a bit of r & b, stripped down, as it t'was acoustic, with no phat studio overdubbing, or any layering done so. Though the bones and marrow, bleed this form.
Rippl'in Da Sands O' Time is the third recording of a series back in November of 2006. Emotionally charged tri-disc Opera of three dates, resulting in an amalgamation of manifesting truths, in regards to Dug's battle for Custody of his two daughters. Just two weeks after this recording, he was incarcerated and sent to jail, for erroneous child support orders, that were years later, overturned, and all flipped on over, as the undertow of truth, will do, if one tai chi's da situation, keeps one's head and does not react to insanity!!!
This music features Dan Kessler on Chapman Stick & Eric Reeves on drums an shakers, alongside Dug creating melodies from pages of poetry and rumbling on the skins. Sounds a bit like Todd's Utopia me thinks... what is your opine? Other titles from this series; "Stay Still" (newly editted, but not yet released) with Jon Wittson on bass and Eric Reeves on drums, with Chris Utzig on sax... more Cat Stevensesque... and "A Circling" a bit more Rocked out; featuring Tilman Reitzel on guitar, Rob Norris on bass and Chris Brakley on drums, joining Dug.
Listening back to this tryptik, amazes, due to the positivity and higher wire connections kept aloft, whilst being seperated "Without Cause" from beautiful, innocent children. I guess cuz of the situation and emotionally charged times, these three recordings are Dug's personal favorite... those lil' doobies are his shining lights!!!
